Friday, October 20, 2006 - Beth Mobley
Sharp Chapel - 11:00 a.m.
Beth Mobley is the Associate Director of the Gould Law Library at the Touro College Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center Library, Touro Law Center (Central Islip, NY). Ms. Mobley will provide an introduction to Jewish law from a bibliographic perspective. The title of her talk is "Sharing Jewish Legal Traditions: The Touro Law Center Library's Lillie Goldstein Judaica Collection." In conjunction with Ms. Mobley's visit, TU will host a visiting collection of important Jewish Law texts, the Lillie Goldstein Judaica Collection, for the entire academic year.

Wednesday, November 15, 2006 - David Dow
Sharp Chapel - 7:30 p.m.
David R. Dow, University Distinguished Professor, University of Houston Law Center (Houston, TX). Professor Dow joined the University of Houston Law Center faculty in 1988. He has handled more than 50 appeals, including more than 25 death penalty appeals. His areas of expertise include contracts, constitutional law, and death penalty law. Professor Dow has written extensively on these subjects as well as on equal protection, law and literature, and federal jurisdiction.

Thursday, January 18, 2007 - Mark Washofsky
Allen Chapman Activity Center, Great Hall - 7:30 p.m.
Mark E. Washofsky, Ph.D., Rabbi and Professor of Rabbinics, Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion (Cincinnati, OH). Rabbi Washofsky specializes in the literature of Jewish law and the application of legal theory to the understanding of the Jewish legal process (halakhah). He is the author of "Jewish Living: A Guide to Contemporary Reform Practice" and co-authored, with W. Gunther Plaut, "Teshuvot for the Nineties," the latest printed collection of Reform response.

Wednesday, February 14, 2007 - Samuel Levine
Allen Chapman Activity Center, Great Hall- 7:30 p.m.
Samuel J. Levine, Associate Professor of Law, Pepperdine University School of Law (Malibu, CA). Professor Levine has presented lectures at a number of conferences, and has published articles in numerous journals in the areas of Jewish law, law and religion, legal ethics, criminal law, and constitutional law. Journals in which he has been published include the Catholic Lawyer, Constitutional Commentary, Fordham Urban Law Journal, Fordham Law Review, Hastings Constitutional Law Quarterly, Houston Law Review, and the Indiana Law Review.

Monday, March 5, 2007 - Elliot Dorff, Rabbi and Professor of Law
Elliot N. Dorff, Ph.D., Rabbi and Distinguished Professor of Philosophy, The University of Judaism (Los Angeles, CA), and Visiting Professor of Law at UCLA School of Law (Los Angeles, CA). Rabbi Dorff was ordained in 1970 at The Jewish Theological Seminary. He earned his doctorate in philosophy from Columbia University in 1971. He currently serves as rector and director of the rabbinical and master's degree programs at the University of Judaism. Rabbi Dorff's publications include over 100 articles on Jewish thought, law, and ethics.
