The University of Tulsa College of Law will launch its five-part Faculty Showcase Series with a discussion on the swiftly changing legal issues concerning Iraqi Oil. One free hour of CLE credit is available to attendees.

The kickoff lecture will be given by Rex Zedalis, professor of law, at 5:30 p.m., September 23, in the main reading room of the Mabee Legal Information Center, 3120 E. 4th Place. The event is free and open to the public.

Zedalis’s speech, “The Contours of Developing Iraqi Oil and Gas Law,” reflects the content of his forthcoming book, to be published by Cambridge University. His lecture will be the first of five installments on the TU College of Law Faculty Showcase Series.

Zedalis is co-director of the TU College of Law’s Comparative and International Law Center and a leading scholar of the interface between international law and energy/commercial endeavors. He has been a member of the law school faculty since 1981. In 2004, he was recognized with TU’s top faculty honor, the Outstanding University Professor of the Year Award. He has won TU’s Outstanding Law Professor of the Year Award four times.

Intellectual property expert Dr. Robert Spoo, TU associate professor of law, will be the next series speaker on Oct. 29. Disability law expert Carrie Basas, TU assistant professor of law, will deliver a lecture on professional ethics on Dec. 3. Speakers have not been confirmed for the Jan. 21 and Feb. 25 events.

After the kickoff event with Zedalis, the remaining four events in the series will be held from noon to 1:30 p.m. in the Price & Turpen Courtroom in John Rogers Hall. Seats at the remaining four lectures are $20 each, which includes lunch and the CLE fee.

Practicing lawyers can receive one hour of CLE credit for each lecture they attend. Interested parties should contact Vicki Jordan at (918) 631-2429 or Vicki-jordan@utulsa.edu.
