Student Organizations

by courtney-selby last modified Thursday, May 29, 2008 10:23 AM

There are a number of student organizations, both at the law school and undergraduate college, in which all students can become involved in extracurricular and academic activities.

On the law school website, you can find a list of student organizations at http://www.law.utulsa.edu/studentorg.

On the main University of Tulsa website, you can find a list of student organizations at http://www.orgs.utulsa.edu/.

"Phi Delta Phi International Legal Fraternity, established in the year 1869 to promote a higher standard of professional ethics, is among the oldest of legal organizations in North America."  phideltaphi.org

Our Inn, Rogers Inn, sets high ethical and academic standards, serving as both an ethics fraternity and honors fraternity.  Rogers Inn is the largest Inn in Oklahoma, with approximately 1/3 of the student body participating in membership.

Upcoming Events

Kendall Court:
Every spring, fifth graders from Kendall-Whittier come to the rescue when a fairytale character has been charged with a crime or sued.  The children serve as jury members and determine the fate of the fantastical defendant.  Law students and alumni play the many roles in costume, from witnesses to lawyers.  The trial takes place in the Model Courtroom.

Librarians also give the children an in-depth tour of the library during the children's time on campus.  The day ends with lunch and visiting with law students!

Ethics Week:
PDP Inns across the world participate in Ethics Week during the months of February and March, inviting lawyers to speak on ethics to students.

Our PDP hosts speaker lunches for one week, usually asking one professor, one practitioner, and one judge to speak on professional ethics.  This event is always very exciting and educational.

Spotlight

Fahed Al-Rawaf

Where are you from? I am from Saudi Arabia, and was raised in Damascus, Syria.

Undergraduate School: After finishing high school overseas, I attended the University of Arkansas, in Fayetteville, where I majored in International Business with an emphasis in Finance.

Activities / Organizations:
  • Articles Editor at the Tulsa Journal of Comparative and International Law
  • President of the International Law Student Association in 2006-2007
  • Secretary of the Hispanic Law Student Association in Fall 2007
  • Editor and Opinion Writer for Dicta, TU Law's newspaper Fall 2005 to Fall 2007
  • Legal Intern at the Boesche Legal Clinic's Immigrants Rights Project- Fall 2007

What do you like about TU Law? My brother is a TU Law graduate, and encouraged me to attend TU. I visited the campus, and really liked the atmosphere at the law school, especially the interaction between students and professors. I was also drawn to TU Law because of its program in International Law. Regionally speaking, TU Law offers more courses in International law, has a Law Journal specifically dedicated to International Law, and you can have the opportunity to study abroad in Europe, China or Latin America! Also, Professors teaching in the field of international law are national experts. And, nationally speaking, TU Law has one of the best programs in Energy Law and Native American Law. I took all these factors into consideration when applying, and I am very glad I took the decision of attending TU Law.
