For more than a decade, The University of Tulsa College of Law Boesche Legal Clinic has provided law students with opportunities to learn by doing -- representing clients and helping resolve legal disputes.

The faculty of the Boesche Legal Clinic expose students through direct experience to the formation and development of the attorney client relationship and accompanying professional obligations, as they begin to develop their professional advocacy skills. The Legal Clinic functions much as a real law firm does, representing real clients with real problems. Through the clinical programs of the Boesche Legal Clinic, second and third-year students, working closely with faculty members, represent real clients in real legal matters.

Since Fall 2006, students enrolled in the Immigrant Rights Project have provided representation to non-citizens in immigration matters.

In the Spring of 2008 our Social Enterprise and Economic Development (SEED) Law Project was introduced and students began working with small business owners and non-profit organizations.

During their time in the clinic, students explore and begin to develop the fundamental professional skills involved in practicing law. Depending on case assignments, students gain experience interviewing and counseling clients, negotiating with other attorneys, case planning, conducting factual investigations, drafting documents, examining and preparing witnesses, and providing written and oral advocacy and community education workshops.

Many clinic clients are low income residents of Oklahoma who would not be able to obtain legal counsel if the clinic's services were not available. They come to us from a rich array of cultures, religions, affiliations, and backgrounds. As a result, clinic students not only grow as professionals but are able to experience the rewards that come from public service and opening them up to the opportunity to learn from the diverse perspectives and experiences of their clients. For many students, participating in a clinic is one of the most memorable and rewarding experiences they will have in law school.
