Congratulations once again on your acceptance into law school! In an attempt to keep you informed and ease your transition into law school, we have compiled the following information. We hope this document will be helpful to you as you prepare to begin law school on August 18th.

Seat Deposits

All admitted students who wish to secure their place in the entering fall 2008 class are required to submit a seat deposit in the amount of $400.00 to the law school admissions office by May 5th.    Your checks should be made payable to The University of Tulsa and mailed to the following:

The University of Tulsa College of Law

ATTN: Admissions Office
3120 E. Fourth Place
Tulsa
, OK 74104

If you prefer to make your payment using a credit card, you may do so by calling the University business office at 918-631-2208 OR 918-631-2600 by May 5th.

Enrollment

For all students who secure their seat in the fall 2008 entering class, the earliest date that you may enroll for fall classes is June 14th at our annual Enrollment and Informational Fair.  This event is designed to be a “one stop shop” for our first year law students giving them an opportunity to not only enroll, but also to speak with representatives from housing, financial aid, student health insurance, campus recreation and others to gather information that will be helpful to you as you prepare to begin law school at TU.

JRH SouthNOTE:  Both part-time and full-time law students are encouraged to attend the June 14th enrollment event.  However, part-time and transfer students who have paid their seat deposits may NOT enroll until after meeting with our Associate Dean for Student Affairs, Vicki Limas.  Dean Limas will begin meeting with part time and transfer students after June 14th to discuss their schedules.   To schedule an appointment to meet with Dean Limas later in the summer, please call 918-631-2445. Alternatively, you may e-mail her at vicki-limas@utulsa.edu.

NOTE:  Also, for full-time students who have special needs such as child care or elder care, it is important that you contact Virginia Richard, the law school registrar, before June 14th.   Ms. Richard may be reached at virginia-richard@utulsa.edu or 918-631-2453.  She will also work with you if you have job-related issues; however, in accordance with ABA standard, full-time law students may not work more than 15 hours a week maximum.  The study of law is considered a full-time pursuit, and it is assumed that a full-time student’s course schedule will take precedence over the work schedule.

For those who have already submitted a seat deposit, invitations to the 2008 Enrollment & Informational Fair will be mailed to you soon.  For those who have yet to submit a seat deposit, we will mail you an invitation to this event after receipt of your deposit.  For purposes of planning your trip, we ask everyone intending to matriculate in the fall to please save the date!

Reading Assignments & Web Page for Foundations in Legal Study

Moot CourtReading assignments required for your first day of orientation, commonly known as Foundations in Legal Study (FLS), on August 18th will be provided to you on June 14th at the Enrollment and Informational Fair.

In the meantime, please take a moment to familiarize yourself with a web page that has been created for FLS.  The link may be found on the navigation bar to your left or by going to the web page at Fall 2008 Foundations in Legal Study.  This website includes a Summer Suggested Reading List for first year law students, a link to the Mabee Legal Information Center website, and will later include a sample FLS schedule for our entering fall 2008 class and information about how to obtain parking permits, e-mail accounts, etc.   After enrolling you will automatically be assigned a class schedule by our registrar’s office.  You will receive your assigned FLS section number the first day of FLS.

Please note that a hard copy of your suggested summer reading list will also be mailed to you whenever we send out the invitation for the Enrollment and Informational Fair in June.

Housing

If you intend to submit your seat deposit or have already submitted your deposit and are still in need of a place to live in the Tulsa area, we invite you to use one of the following apartment locators to asses your needs and streamline the selection to only the places that would be best for you.  We recommend Mr. Jerry Kirkpatrick who can be reached at 918-749-9305 or at TulsaJerry@aol.comWe also recommend another apartment locator service called “Apartment Home Specialist LLC,” and they can be reached at www.apartmentspecialist.net.  Both of these locators will be happy to assist you.

Apts ExteriorAlternatively, if you desire to live closer to the law school, on-campus apartments built specifically for law and grad students are conveniently located just a couple of blocks away from the law school on Fourth Place.  We have been told by housing management that there are apartments still available for incoming law students but that it is VERY important that you contact them soon because the apartments are only available on a first come first serve basis.  At your earliest convenience, we urge you to contact Mark Bernhardt at mark-bernhardt@utulsa.eduFor more information about our University Apartments, we encourage you to contact Housing at 918-631-5248 or visit their website at www.utulsa.edu/housing.

Change of Address

As we to draw closer to the beginning of fall classes, we will continue to contact you with information that will be important for you to know.  In order to do this is it crucial that we have the most recent and reliable contact information for each of our incoming first year students.  If you have had a change of address, e-mail or phone number, please contact Rosemarie Spaulding at rosemarie-spaulding@utulsa.edu or 918-631-3163 as soon as possible so that we may update our records and keep you informed throughout the summer.
