Ducey’s Lucys Take Top Creative Prize at ChiliFest 2003
The MLIC Chilifest Team of Rick Ducey, Carol Arnold, Amanda Driggers, Courtney Selby and Lou Lindsey, AKA Ducey’s Lucys, took home the Most Creative Recipe Award at the Annual ChiliFest. The winning recipe was handed down for several generations, or it was discovered on the internet, one or the other. However, the secret to the recipe was the magic marinade that flavored the meat (pork, beef and chicken) overnight before the chili was assembled. To the marinated meat were added a variety of spices, fresh vegetables, including mushrooms and plenty of real chili peppers. One chili afficionado was overheard saying,“It is spicy hot, but it has great flavor.” The MLIC booth at the ChiliFest featured an “I Love Lucy” motif. To the inspiring beat of the bongo drums our fearless leader, Rick Ducey, sang an impromptu melody that went something like this: “Our chili has a bite, we think it’s just right, BAABAALOO!” The judges extreme pleasure (several of the judges came back for seconds and even thirds) was recorded by photographer/chef/server Lou Lindsey. It looked like the judging team may have tipped their hand when one of the judges (none other than Justice Boudreau of the Oklahoma Supreme Court) came by and requested a list of ingredients. During the tension-filled wait for the results, we all enjoyed the serenading of the Mariachi Band. The result was victory for the inspired team and their chili. All in all, it was a fun-filled and festive evening, and we would like to send our congratulations to all of the winning teams and everyone who participated in ChiliFest 2003. It was a great success!
