Instructions for Application

The following instructions are designed to help you complete your application to The University of Tulsa College of Law.

  • All correspondence concerning the admission process should be directed specifically to the Director of Admission.
  • All paper applications for admission to the College of Law must be accompanied by a nonrefundable application fee of $30 (this includes both the paper application sent to you in the viewbook and the downloadable paper application). There is presently no charge for the online version of the application.
  • While we do not have a firm cut-off date for applications, we strongly suggest that you file your application as soon as possible, preferably by February 1.
  • A current admission year LSDAS report is required to complete an application. The Law School Admission Council (LSAC) will retrieve LSAT scores but not LSDAS reports of an earlier admission year. Thus, you must register for the current admission year LSDAS report. LSAT packets that contain the registration form for the test may be obtained at most colleges and universities or you can visit the Law School Admissions Council web-site by clicking here. You may also write to: LSAT/LSDAS, P.O.Box 2000, Newton, Pennsylvania 18940 or phone (215)968-1001.
  • If you are applying for financial aid, you must submit your financial aid application to: The University of Tulsa Student Financial Services, 800 South Tucker Drive, Tulsa,OK 74104-3189
  • Foreign Degree Applicants: In addition to completing the general requirements for admission, applicants who have earned undergraduate degrees from institutions outside the United Sates or Canada must have their transcripts evaluated through the LSAC JD Credential Assembly Service. This service is included in the LSDAS subscription fee and the evaluation will be incorporated into the LSDAS report. In addition, we require that all applicants who have earned degrees from institutions outside the United States or Canada submit an original copy of the TOEFL score to LSAC. If the applicant has completed undergraduate or graduate coursework in the United States or has received their degree from a university in which English is the primary language of instruction, the TOEFL may be waived, upon petition, at the discretion of the Director of Admissions. To submit a TOEFL score, you must contact the Education Testing Service (ETS) and request that your TOEFL score be sent to LSAC. The LSAC TOEFL code for the JC Credential Assembly Service is 0058. This score will also be incorporated in your LSDAS report.

Financial responsibility must be attested to in accordance with current cost estimates available here (pdf). Please fill out Confirmation of Financial Resourses form (pdf) here. Alternatively, if an applicant wishes, they may provide a bank statement instead of the official CFR form as long as the bank statement is in English and the name of the person who has the account is listed on the form and it shows the banks name. If they choose this method and the account is not their own, they need to put in writing how this person is related to them. The applicant also has the option of obtaining a letter from their bank that states that they have at least the needed amount (They do not need to tell us how much they have, but they do need to prove the set amount), and the letter must be signed by a bank official and be on bank letterhead. If they are to be funded through an outside scholarship or corporate sponsor, they need to provide an official letter stating exactly what is to be covered and how much.

  • Applicants with On-line Degrees: In addition to completing the general requirements for admission, applicants who have earned undergraduate degrees from on-line colleges of or universities must provide written documentation from their undergraduate institution that the college or university is regionally or state accredited. The applicant must also provide written documentation that the on-line degree or program or of study is state or regionally accredited.

REAPPLICATION POLICY

Students who have been denied acceptance to the College of Law and who wish to reapply must submit a written statement to the Admissions and Financial Aid Committee. This statement must describe what steps the applicant has taken to improve the applicant's qualifications for admission. If it has been determined by a University of Tulsa College of Law Admission Officer that one of the reasons for denial was a low LSAT, the applicant must have retaken the LSAT and shown a significant increase in the LSAT score. To cover the administrative costs associated with reapplications, there will be a $50.00 reapplication fee for each application subsequent to a letter of denial.

In addition to this policy, the Admissions Office will reserve the afternoon of the last Thursday of each month for visiting with students who have been denied and who wish to be reconsidered. Except for extraordinary circumstances to be determined by the Dean of Admissions, a visit may be scheduled at a different time.
